Richard Renaldi asks complete strangers to pose for a portrait with only one stipulation:

The premise of this work is simple: I meet two or more people on the street who are strangers to each other, and to me. I ask them if they will pose for a photograph together with the stipulation that they must touch each other in some manner. …. Touching Strangers encourages viewers to think about how we relate physically to one another, and to entrain the possibility that there is an unlimited potential for new relationships with almost anybody passing by.

This idea spawned a really beautiful series of photographs. It makes me think about how when I go to a big city, it takes days for me to stop greeting each person that I pass on the street. It’s embarrassing really, to say hello, or nice dog, or how are you? to ten or twenty people with no response in return aside from a confused/annoyed stare. I stop eventually. It is a habit formed in small towns.  This series of photos challenges the idea of everyone being strangers. If you just stop for a moment, and talk or touch, the strangeness starts to fade.
